New Rfid Gauteng Number Plates
Notice 4025 of 2009 Gauteng Licence Mark System
Provincial Notice No 16 of 2002 issued in terms of regulations 27,28,29,71 and 86 of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2000, published in the Provincial Gazette No 400 of 26 November 2002 for the Gauteng Province is hereby repealed.
The new Rfid tag number plate will be launched soon:
"Rfid" means Radio Frequency Identification, which is an electronic method to read the identification code of a tag using radio media and
"SANS" means South African National Standard and
"Unique identification code" means a code uniquely identifying a specific number plate, incorporated into a 2D-barcode.
The license mark for the Gauteng Province Shall consist of the Gauteng logo and the letters GP.
A number plate for any motor vehicle shall display dark blue letters and figures on a white retro-reflective surface background.
A personalised and specialised number plate of a motor vehicle shall display dark green letters and figures on a white retro-reflective background.
A motor trade plate will display the same dark blue letters as on the standard GP plate.
Gauteng Provincial Government vehicles owned and used will display dark red letters on a white retro-reflective background.
